Indigo Healthcare are interested in seeing CVs of any doctors looking for opportunities at Specialty Doctor Level to join the Gastroenterology team at the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Fixed Term Contract


£45,124 - £77,519 per annum

Job Overview:

The Department of Gastroenterology is primarily based at Hull Royal Infirmary and comprises 13 substantive consultant posts. The department has a 23 bedded ward with two endoscopy units - one at the Infirmary and one at Castle Hill Hospital.

The new appointee will work with the consultant team and existing specialty doctors to deliver the Gastroenterology service demand for the local population, with responsibilities for in- and out-patient care, and a commitment to specialty on call.

The department has extensive skill in Hepatology, Nutrition, IBD, GI physiology and therapeutic Endoscopy.  Existing competencies in endoscopy would be welcomed, but the role is flexible according to the skill mix of the successful applicant. Clinical experience in Gastroenterology is however mandatory.


HUTH has two main hospital sites: Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital with an annual budget of approximately £500 million. The Trust employs over 9,000 staff and serves an extended population of 1.25 million, delivering several outpatient services from locations across the area.

The Trust’s secondary care service portfolio is comprehensive, covering the major medical and surgical specialties, routine and specialist diagnostic services and other clinical support services. These services are provided primarily to a catchment population of approximately 600,000 in the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire area.

Hull, or Kingston upon Hull, is a port city in East Yorkshire, England. Where the River Hull meets the Humber Estuary, The Deep aquarium is a futuristic building with an underwater viewing tunnel and hands-on displays. In the old town’s Museums Quarter, the Street life Museum focuses on modes of transport. Wilberforce House, birthplace of William Wilberforce, documents the abolition of the slave trade.


Essential Criteria:

  • Full GMC registration.
  • MRCP
  • Clinical experience in gastroenterology
  • Experience of supervising FY1/2 doctors and medical students
  • Ability to teach clinical skills and knowledge
